Temporary Disruption to Emergency Services

May 07, 2020

Temporary Disruption to Emergency Services:

Effective immediately and until further notice the temporary conversion of the community hospital in Kerrobert to Alternate Level of Care (ALC) will take place.  As part of this conversion, the emergency department in Kerrobert will now be temporarily CLOSED effective May 8, 2020.  By converting the purpose of Community hospitals in some of our communities we can protect our most vulnerable populations. Keeping patients and staff safe and healthy continues to be our number one priority.  This is part of the Integrated Rural Health’s surge plan which will allow for the movement of alternate level of care patients from tertiary and regional hospitals to create capacity for the potential COVID-19 surge.

Non-urgent health-related questions can be directed to the provincial HealthLine by calling 811.  Health, mental health or addictions questions, medical advice and support is available by accessing HealthLine 811 professionals 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

In the event of an emergency, call 911.  EMS will be dispatched to respond.  EMS will assess the patient, initiate treatment, and transport to the most appropriate facility to provide further care for the patient’s illness/injury. Inpatient acute care admissions will temporarily stop and only patients considered alternate level of care will be admitted. Primary Health Care services, including access to lab and diagnostic imaging will be maintained. There are no changes to long term care
